Isabella Smith

Hi,

Cc'ing everyone here as I have been engaged and dialogued with everyone this year about Iz being absent from school. She doesn't just 'not attend'.
She was very unfortunate to have two occurrences of sickness, once in October for Covid and once in January for the Flu. I chose to keep her from school because she was sick and she saw a Ped on both occasions and a note was provided.
Iz participates in an outside travel sport and I informed all teachers, well in advance, of any travel time needed. We travel to participate in Allstar Cheer….this year to Indy, Dallas, Atlanta, and Orlando. And just two weeks ago, Iz and her team competed in the Cheerleading Worlds and placed 2nd in the World in her division.
A World Athlete, not a rec cheer league.
We take her school seriously and the life lessons she learns and the discipline needed to participate at this level of sport. Which has now been approved as an Olympic Sport.
This has never been an issue since Iz started cheer in the 1st grade. We have always used travel as educational opportunities. We visit college campuses. Iz is already being requested to attend several Universities to cheer.
She hasn't just not attended school, there was purpose and direction when she wasn't there.
Should I have filled out something advance along with all my notifications? And, I do have all the communication emails.
This has never been an issue, just concerned that it has happen this year, after 10 years of participation in the sport.
I will admit, the sick days were not planned and not welcomed. But, following the rules, with a fever, no school.

Would love to sit down and discuss. I have been engaged since the first day of school this year, and every year.
